2007 Year-in-Review

2007 was yet another momentous year for TMG Productions, perhaps the biggest year yet!

The year kicked off with Timothy Michael releasing his newsboys cover album “GOING” including the single and music video to “Something Beautiful” directed by David Gilleand.  The album also included Tim’s original “More Than a Song” and a More Than Song live version of “I Am Free“.

Also in January, the Gilleand Brothers released the fourth installment in the Stewart A. Pehd series that they produced over a weekend cram session on the continuing work on their long-awaited full-length original action/drama movie “EXTRAORDINARY“, now in it’s second year of production.   Also a special 10-minute montage called “Meet the Gilleand Brothers” was released this month, a refresher course on the GB history!

In the beginning of February, David Gilleand made three classic Gilleand Brother DVDs available online!  The entire 3.5 hour DVD “THE GILLEAND BROTHER MOVIES“, a collection of over 25 of the greatest GB short films remastered –  “THE MATRIX REVEALED“, the full-length fan film movie – AND “WTMG: The Movie“, our full-length adaption of an original short film!

In March, MORE THAN SONG announced that it would be on a haitus until further notice due to the abrupt loss of their guitarist and drummer.  TMG Productions was then silent until May 9th when Timothy Michael released a new album online “THE WAY I AM“, a restrospective of his musical career including rare tracks.  The entire album is still available to stream online!  Tim had this to say about the project: “We’ve put together a mirage of rarities, outtakes, practices, live performances, never-before-released tracks, remixes, sound excerpts, and new recordings.”

Throughout 2007, the GBs also experimented with a podcast called “THE EXTRAORDINARY PROJECT” where they talked about their favorite shows such as “Heroes”, “Lost”, “Smallville”, as well as updated on their own movie projects.  All of Season 1 can still be streamed here.  In June, the GBs announced that they were finalists in the official TobyMac music video contest for their entry of “I’m For You“.  They did not end up winning, but neither did anyone else apparently…hmm.

On July 5th, 2007, 20 months after Pre-Production started, the Gilleand Brothers were finally able to announce the impending global release of EXTRAORDINARY!  Saturday, August 4th, 2007 the GBs released the full movie online, on DVD, and held a special premiere at the downtown South Bend, IN public Library!  To date, the movie has had 3000+ views on YouTube!  At the end of August, David Gilleand premiered his own video blog called “DAVE’S LIFE“.  To date, Dave has produced 82 video journals!  This month Dave also released a new compilation of unreleased GB short films called “UNLOCKING THE GILLEAND VAULT“.

In September, with the start of the new TV season, Tim began to produce music videos to accompany each new episode of NBC’s “HEROES“.  He continued this throughout the entire 11-episode season.  The premiere ep, middle, and finale ep’s videos are still up online.   On October 19th, Tim and his wife Marcy announced that their 3-year old boy Michael would become a big brother next year!  Marcy is due in June, 2008.

In November, Tim attended his 17th newsboys live show in South Bend, IN and him and Andy took this chance to STALK them!  LOL.  On November 26th, TMG Productions was able to accomplish something they’ve been trying to do for a long time.  We launched a 24/7 online streaming Timothy Michael radio station!  To date, the station now has over 180 tracks, including several rarities and unreleased tracks that can only be heard by tuning in!  (Over 13 hours of continuous TMG goodness!)

In the beginning of December, the GBs announced two new projects.  The first, a “Gilleand Brothers Christmas Special” hosted by WTMG and featuring spoofed version of some of the GBs most popular short films remade with a holiday twist!  The second a forthcoming project known only as “Channel Surfing“.

2008 looks to be a promising year as Tim returns with new music, the GBs return to the screen in HD, hopefully a More Than Song reunion, a new baby, and other special surprises!  As I always say, stay tuned!

new Timothy Michael retrospective CD – “The Way I Am”

TMG Productions is proud to announce the official release of Timothy Michael’s newest album “THE WAY I AM”.  This new project is a year in the making.  Tim culled through hours of archival recordings to assemble this unique retrospective…

“Hello.  Welcome to my world.  Over the next 80-minutes I will take you on a journey through the past 20 years of my creative-career.  I have been writing and singing music since I was 7 years old.  But that’s not all I’ve done.  I’ve been in a few bands, I’ve written/filmed/edited several movies, I’ve been recognized by thousands as MJ, as well as being an area worship leader.  Although this collection is a retrospective, you’ve never quite heard these captured quite like this.  We’ve put together a mirage of rarities, outtakes, practices, live performances, never-before-released tracks, remixes, sound excerpts, and new recordings.  Enjoy, sit back, and relax, and let me take you through a brief summary that is THE WAY I AM.”

The Way I Am        The Way I Am back

click on the below links to preview each full track for a limited time!

1.     ALL ALONE  – in the beginning mix     4:56
This collection opens taking us all the way back to 1987  with my very first original song/recording of “Drummerman” at age 7!  When I decided to write a song I asked my mom about some possible song titles – “Piano Man” (taken), “Guitar Man” (taken), so I came to “Drummerman”.  My first recording of it didn’t go so well though, and its too bad I didn’t save it!  The tape recorder got stuck in slow-mo mode, the entire song came out in slow-motion – it was pretty funny!
The next clip you hear is of ‘The New Domination’, me and my friend Randy Scott circa 1991 with our playground original hit “Be My Girl”.  Seriously we used to perform every recess in junior high outside either dancing like Michael Jackson or barbershop style singing our hits.
From this we jump back a couple years to 1989 and me and friend Jeremy Southwood, introing into what I consider my first real song – “All Alone”.  We wrote the word and my mom, Julie Gilleand, wrote the music.  I performed this song in front of my sixth grade class to a studio recording my mom had prepared for me.  The version you hear on this collection is from my 2004 album ‘Imagination Retaliation’.
2.     LOVE’S STING – dp mix     3:58
This track open with a clip from The Gilleand Brother’s 2004 film “The Matrix Revealed”.  That movie was our first big venture.  We took three 25-min. short films and combined them into our first full-length motion picture.
From 1996-1999 I was part of a high school alternative rock band called DRIVER PAUL.  The next clip is an instrumental guitar riff from our most popular cult classic song “Are You My Mother (Inside)” performed live at my 25th birthday party at Camp Ray Bird, released as ‘Timothy Michael – Live’.
The next clip is from a Driver Paul practice with me and Jason Hawn running through my original “Love’s Sting” for the first time (very late at night!)  This transitions into my 2005 professional recording of the song released on my ‘Everything and Nothing all at Once’ album.
After a brief interlude of behind-the-scenes practice with DP, we hear an excerpt from a live performance of the band performing Tim’s original “Lies” with Rob Hunter as a special guest on lead guitar.  This recording was originally released on Tim’s first CD, ‘The Fiery Embers that Brand your Name’ with DP.  Before ending this track we hear a short line from Tim’s “Past Present Future” – Driver Paul is 10 minutes late.
3.     FORGIVENESS     2:21
This is a professional studio recording of “Forgiveness”, a song that Tim wrote and performed regularly with Driver Paul.  This recording is from the ‘Imagination Retaliation’ CD.  This song was written about a serious incident that happened with a friend of mine during high school who didn’t feel like she could go on.
4.     CRYIN’  –  walk 2 remember ver.    3:55
“Cryin for Myself” was made popular on the 2002 studio album ‘TMG’.  This is an alternate version that was only released on the CD single, it includes dialogue from one of my favorite movies, “A Walk to Remember”.  The original version included dialogue from “Jerry Maguire”.  This was one of the first songs I wrote after Driver Paul broke up.  The music video I created for this song is set to footage from Tim’s first film “Tracers”.
5.     TWO CRAZY KIDS reunion     2:03
Two Crazy Kids was a project that I recorded with my best friend Phil Bergner in junior high.  It was a collection of silly renditions of Beatles/John Lennon songs.  As I was going back through the archives for this project, I decided to revive the Two Crazy Kids.  This track is John Lennon’s “Watching the Wheels”, a new recording recorded in the same format as the original 1992 TCK recordings.
This track ends with an outtake from The Gilleand Brothers movie “Extraordinary”.
6.     MORE LIKE YOU  –  MJ dance remix    4:47
Yes, it’s true, starting in junior high and continuing through my high school years I was also known as Michael Jackson.  My friend Randy Scott inspired and taught me many of the moves, that over the years, I perfected.  I ended up performing for thousands of people over several years, and still to this day I am recognized once in a while out in the community.
This is a remix recording of the 2001 original hit “More Like You”, originally released on ‘The Heart of Worship’ CD.  This version is from the CD single.  “More Like You” has gone onto become my most popular song of my career, performed and recorded more times than any other song.  The song was written while I worked out at Camp Ray Bird, a Christian camp in South Bend, IN.
7.     MORE THAN SONG     7:58
In 2003, I joined up with Nathan Smith from Camp Ray Bird to form MORE THAN SONG, a Christian worship/rock band.  We quickly became the in-house worship band for the camp, and continued onto record some of our own CDs.  In 2004, Scott Hipsher and Marcy Elaine joined us as we debuted as a band at the Freedom in Christ festival.  Since then, the band has undergone some personnel changes, but the mission remains the same: whatever we do – it is the God behind the music that is more important than those of us on stage.
This track open with an acoustic version of “The Heart of Worship” from my 2001 album of the same name.  Overdubbed onto that recording is a new special intro I created for use at my church called I just wish there were words.  This segues into a live recording from More Than Song of “Heart” where I explain the story behind the song.  I’ve been telling this story for years, but it truly has changed my life and outlook at worship.
Following that performance, is a portion of my newest original song “More Than a Song”, released on my most recent CD, ‘Going’.
8.     YOUR NAME     4:31
This track opens with the conclusion of I just wish there were words and transitions into a brand-new recording of the Paul Baloche worship song “Your Name”, performed acoustically.
9.     EXTRAORDINARY     3:18
When The Gilleand Brothers first set out to create our full-length original action/drama movie ‘Extraordinary’, I decided to write a song for the end credits.  Well, the song never became a reality and we ended up going with “This World”.  This track is a bonus track from my 2005 album ‘More Like You’, and is a melding of many things, including the original poem which was meant to become Extraordinary – the song.
The track also features excerpts of a message from Peter Furler of the Newboys, and the Gloria Gaynor hit “I Will Survive”.
10.    MICHAEL INTERLUDE     0:22
The “Michael Interlude” includes an excerpt from mine and my wife’s original dedicated song for our son, which segues immediately into a unique debut recording of Michael James’ first original song “Fishes Doit”.
11.    ME AND MY HOUSE  –  2007 mix     4:52
I wrote “Me and My House” as I watched the shock and awe of the initial bombing of Baghdad during the 2003 opening of the Iraq war.  I’ve always loved Joshua chapter 24, as a dying leader challenges the people to choose what it is they will serve.  MAMH was originally released on the 2003 album ‘As for me and my house’.  It was used in The Gilleand Brothers film “The Matrix Revealed”.  It has gone onto become one of my most loved songs for myself and my fans.
This is a brand-new mix from the original 2003 studio tracks.  I was lucky enough to still have the original tracks preserved, and this a brand-new mix for this project.
12.    HAPPY SAD MAN     2:48
“Happy Sad Man” is an unreleased recording from the ‘As for me and my house’ album sessions.  When I finished the album I decided it didn’t fit the flow of the album, so I discovered it in the archives and decided to pull up the mix and finish it.  The song was written during my Driver Paul run, and was partly inspired by Kurt Cobain.
13.    STILL BEING THERE  –  after all the years     4:12
This new medley/mix is a combination of the two recordings of “Still Being There” and the hit single “Being There”.  “Still Being There” was first featured as an encore on the ‘As for me and my house’ CD, and as the opening track of the follow-up 2004 CD ‘Our Love is Alive’.
The version of “Being There” included here is a new acoustic mix culled from the original studio recordings.  I wrote “Being There” in my sleep.  I dreamt the song all night, and when I woke up it was all laid out for me, I just had to write it down.  I think I even went onto record it that same day!
14.    NOT WITH ME  –  GB mix     4:21
In 2007, The Gilleand Brothers began a weekly podcast called “The Extraordinary Project”.  This track begins with some of the best moments of the first season which transitions into a remix version of “Not With Me”, the song I used in the end credits of our “WTMG: The Movie”.  This remix was originally released as a bonus track on the 2005 album “Everything and Nothing all at Once”.
15.    BLESSING / THE LAST DAY  –  live     5:31
The summer of 2005 I performed weekly at The Lighthouse Café, a Christian coffeehouse/restaurant in downtown Mishawaka, IN.  This recording is a live performance of two of my songs written for my wife Marcy Elaine: “Blessing” and “The Last Day”, originally released on my 2005 album ‘More Like You’.
16.    THE WORSHIP MEDLEY     3:20
I have been leading worship for many years.  Over the years I have arranged three classic praise songs which I feel go very well together and have called it “The Worship Medley”.  I’ve performed this medley countless times in concerts and worship services, yet it still holds the same power to me.  The combination of these powerful songs, “Lord I Lift Your Name on High” / “Shine Jesus Shine” / “Every Move I Make”, always empowers the audience.   This track is a slightly sped-up version of the rendition originally released on my 2006 worship album ‘The Sonlight Experience’, an album created specifically for the attendants of a special evening event I arranged called THE EXPERIENCE.
17.    THE WAY WE ARE     3:05
“The Way We Are” was discovered hidden away on audio tape as I sifted through the archives.  It is an unreleased original.  I recorded this home demo circa 1997, locked it away, and completely forgot about it.  So, here it is, for the first time ever.  It also would be considered one of my very first multi-tracked recordings.
18.    THIS WORLD  –  wonder mix     3:28
This track opens with an excerpt from The Gilleand Brothers short film “Questions Only”.
This recording of “This World” is a re-mixed version mixed from the original studio recordings created for the 2005 album ‘Everything and Nothing all at Once’.  This song was written during the Driver Paul era, and actually is co-credited to Jason Hawn (he wrote one chord).  The song is used in the credits of The Gilleand Brothers movie “Extraordinary”, and the music video features footage from a deleted scene from the movie.
This track ends with an excerpt from “In Wonder”, as released on my most recent Newsboys tribute album ‘Going’.
19.    BABY BABY     1:12
This is an unreleased gem.  One of my very first original songs written and recorded in 1987.  I was laughing to death when I discovered this one in the archives.  So, here it is for the very first time!  3 or 4 babies, all girls!
20.    SHOWSTOPPER     2:42
For our grand finale, we visit another memory from the TMG Productions vault, “Defective Music No. 5”.  So if everything in this massive collection and undertaking can be summed up in one phrase – Don’t eat beans!
We had to go out with a bang!  I’m just a hunk o hunk of burning love.

MORE THAN SONG on hiatus

Tim’s Christian/worship rock band MORE THAN SONG recieved resignations from their lead guitarist – Jeff Kamp, and drummer Brent Kattau this week.  After losing Marcy Elaine this past fall, this leaves the band down to Scott and Tim.  With new jobs, and rising conflicting schedules the band has decided to go on hiatus until situations clear up.  The band, which has been together in one form or another since 2003, has no plans of completly calling it quits, but will be taking a break until further notice.

Tim can still be seen leading worship weekly at Sonlight Fellowship Wesleyan Church in South Bend, IN.  Brent and Jeff play for the kids at Granger Community Church, and Scott is active in his church at Osceola Church of the Brethren and other local bands.  Marcy is currently recording a demo and writing many songs and hopes to start a chick-rock band this year.  Our old bassist, Nathan Smith is returning to the USA from serving in Korea next week.

2006 Year-in-Review

2006 was once again a booming year for TMG Productions.

Fresh off the Timothy Michael CD release of “Everything and Nothing all at Once”, the year kicked off to a good start with a warm online welcoming of Tim’s John Denver tribute song/video “The Water is Singing”.  Tim produced a record 7 music videos for the ‘Everything’ album, including “This World” from the Gilleand Brothers forthcoming movie “Extraordinary”.  Early on in 2006, Timothy Michael compiled all his new music videos with all his past videos and released “Everything and Nothing – the complete music video collection” on DVD containing all 25 clips.

Work on “Extraordinary”, the long-awaited original action/drama full-length movie from the GBs, continued on into its second year of work into the post-production phase.  Throughout the year, the brothers worked on finalizing special effects, final editing, voice-over work, and sound effects.  The project is by-far the biggest project to date for the brothers as displayed in the exciting DVD Trailer and completed First 7 Minutes of the movie released online this year.  The movie is expected to be completed Spring, 2007.  The brothers also released three new short films this year – parts 2 & 3 of ‘The Continuing Story of Stewart A. Pehd’ and an improve comedy sketch ‘Questions Only’.

2006 was also the year of YouTube!  By the end of the year, TMG Productions has uploaded over 80 original videos – amassing hours of free content ranging from Timothy Michael music videos, to Gilleand Brother short films and promos, and much more – with a year end total of over 72,000 views for our videos.  Some of the most viewed were TMG original fan videos to Superchick’s ‘We Live’ (13,021), a Dawson’s Creek comedy montage (6,9888), a Michael Jackson unreleased fan video (6,351), and much more.  The most viewed original TMG Productions artist video was to Timothy Michael’s rendition of “I Can Only Imagine” (3,960).

This year also saw some changes in the More Than Song band line-up.  Heading into their third year, Tim’s Christian band lost bassist Nathan Smith to the Army.  They spent half the year re-working their line-up and by summer had landed Jeff Kamp on guitar and Brent Kattau on drums.  Tim moved to bass.  The band performed at about a dozen performances throughout the summer and fall including Mishawaka Summerfest, Freedom in Christ, Rhythms of Grace, Sonlight Fellowship, and more.  The changes in lineup encouraged a change in their style and sound.  The band moved from a softer worship sound to a more upbeat performance style with powerful covers like Chris Tomlin’s “Not to Us” and David Crowder’s “Revolutionary Love”.  After the band’s final performance of the year Tim’s wife Marcy also announced that she was leaving the band to focus more on her own music.  The band is currently looking to fill that spot.  The band also suffered a blow when they too quickly lost friend, founder, and co-lyricist Ken Henderson to cancer.  Ken wrote the words to the band’s “Freedom in Christ” song and also organized the yearly music festival with the same name.  He will be missed, and the band will continue to honor his life and ministry through his music.

Tim continued his own ministry at Sonlight Fellowship Wesleyan Church as their weekly worship leader this year.  He also used his affiliation with the church to host a unique worship program called “The Experience”.  The Experience was an under-wraps project Tim felt led to organize that put an emphasis on the community and corporate worship aspects of the church.  The program featured live worship music from More Than Song, a hilarious skit with Tim & Dave, a moving open testimonies time, and a special Q&A session with the pastor.  Tim and the church are currently discussing a second Experience for sometime in 2007.

For Tim, 2006 also saw him and his wife Marcy turn 27 (another notch closer to 30!!) – does that mean we have to start acting like adults some time soon??  Michael turned 3 to an exciting Cars B-day party!  And Tim left his Night School teachers assistant position of 5 years, to become a substitute for the South Bend Library system.  2006 also saw the spread of MySpace.com to the entire family: Tim, Marcy, Andy, David – and special sites dedicated to More Than Song, the GBs, and Timothy Michael’s solo music (featuring the first ever digital download pay service for Tim’s music).  This year, we also re-vamped TMGproductions.net into a blog-style news layout.

Overall, 2006 was an exciting and developing year – and with the long-awaited upcoming release of “Extraordinary”, a second ‘Experience’, a demo recording from More Than Song, and new music from Marcy – 2007 promises to be even more exciting.  Happy New Year everyone, and as always – stay tuned!

Quite an Experience

Well, that happened.  It was a crazy, hectic, fun, exciting, challenging, tiring, motivational, and moving weekend!

Saturday afternoon was my son’s 3-year old birthday party.  We had a great time with friends and family, and Michael was showered with gifts.  It was a “CARS” Movie theme.  Cars were everywhere.  One person found an old cooler full of matchbox cars in the attic of a new house she bought, and gave those to him – so yeah, he was in heaven!  We got him a CARS bed, poster, and the movie itself.  He also got CARS blankets and a pillowcase for the bed.  He got books, puzzles, more cars, a CARS lamp, huge Spider-man toys, a lightsaber – just all kinds of things.  We had a really good time, it was a great success…. and of course, I will update you all with video shortly.

Saturday evening was a full-out rehearsal and set-up for THE EXPERIENCE, to take place Sunday night.  My band, MORE THAN SONG, met at the church and we had a great rehearsal, the sound was incredible, and everything just seemed to fall into place.  After the guys left, my brother Dave showed up to practice our skit, and then we shot a new Timothy Michael music video which he is currently editing.  (coming soon…)  I also filmed some footage at the band rehearsal which I will let you all see soon!  We were at the church till almost 1 in the morning.  I got 5 hours of sleep and then it was on to Sunday!

Sunday was church in the morning, a peaceful restful afternoon, and then back to the church at about 5 to get final preperations in order for The Experience.  We got everything in place, and sound set by 6.  We were helped out by Chad on sound.  The lighting was in place and looked great.  We really only suffered one blow, and that was the video projector was acting up on us again.  We were able to show the powerpoint on it, but the video was going to have to be cut.  Luckily I chose a video that didn’t NEED to be seen, only heard, so I decided to go that route.

And then it was THE EXPERIENCE.  The band was right on, we were told it was the best we’ve sounded yet – which is good, means we keep improving.  The skit with Dave was hilarious (and was videotaped).  The video, the testimony time, and the Q&A were just as powerful and moving as I prayed they would be.  Overall, the evening was a success, and I was very happy with the way it turned out.  We had about 50 people attend, from a few different churches.  I also gave away about 15 of my “Sonlight Experience” CDs.  I will be uploading some pics and vids from this Experience soon.  A special THANK YOU to everyone that was involved in helping make this such as success.
